Salt Creek Recreation Area – AKA Mini Ruby Beach

While on our camping trip in Port Townsend we decided to take a day trip to Salt Creek Recreation Area in Port Angeles. We got up early and made the hour drive to Port Angeles. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this area at all but we decided to just go for it and see what it was all about! It was totally worth it! Such an awesome place to explore! Sam said it reminded him of a mini Ruby Beach (which we went to last summer out on the coast). I would have to agree. It definitely gave me the feel of being out on the coast!

Viewpoint before hiking down to the beach!

It took us about 10 minutes to walk out to the sea stack. We got there early in the morning so it was fairly empty! It is a huge beach so we had plenty of space to ourselves even though there were some others out there. We saw a few Bald Eagles soaring overhead too! Always so awesome to see Bald Eagles.

Once we got to the sandy part of the beach, we ditched our shoes and set out to explore!! No better way to ground yourself than enjoying some time in nature barefoot.

Sandy beaches are our favorites! No sharp barnacles or rocks to look out for! The kids can just run wild without worrying about getting cut feet!

This sea stack definitely reminded me of the one at Ruby Beach but on a much smaller scale!

The kids have these great little kites that are so easy to pack along! They had a lot of fun flying them!

The salt water in Washington never really gets warm. So thankful for lots of tide pools here that were warm! Odin and Aspen had so much fun. They found leaves, bark and sticks to use as boats and played for forever!

Searching through the tide pools we discovered lots of crabs, hermit crabs, and bright colored anemones. I was hoping to find some star fish but no luck this time! The tide was going out while we were there. I think if we had waited until low tide we may have discovered more in the tide pools and on the rocks.

I’m so glad we chose to spend our morning here! We left for lunch and it was getting pretty busy. Lots of families began setting up by all the warm tide pools. Thankfully we were already on our way out! I would definitely not complain about spending some more time here before summer is done!

Thankful to find a nice sandy beach spot where we could enjoy some time exploring barefoot!

On to the next adventure…
