Bellingham or Bust!

Once again our adventures meant taking the ferry to Whidbey Island. This time we made our way all the way up to Bellingham! We sure enjoyed our time there! Bellingham offers some gorgeous views, lots of parks and many hiking trails for all skill levels!

First time taking Freya out on the car deck!

We took our last camping trip of the year at Larrabee State Park. Since we were technically camping in off season, the campground was rather empty and quiet. Well kind of quiet. A train runs through the campground an average of 16 times in a 24 hour period. Thankfully the kids and Freya slept through the night train! This was longer than most of our camping trips so we were happy the rain held off until Sunday morning when we were leaving. We saw Sunday was a 90% chance of rain but we decided to go for it anyways! So glad we did. The rest of the time was beautiful weather. Not super fun breaking down camp in the rain but we have done worse things!

So much for the kids to do in the campground. A favorite was climbing these big rocks! I love watching the kids find entertainment in something so simple.

Not sure why we waited for the last camping trip of the year to bring their bikes along with us! Such a great idea to help wear them out and keep them entertained! We rode all over the campground and over to the playground too. Nobody was camped next to us so they had free reign to bike between the campsites!

Odin really wanted to get up close to the train so we decided to hike Teddy Bear Cove. An easy 1.8 miles. The trail led down to the tracks which we crossed over to get to the view points.

After we took in the views for a while we hiked down to the cove to let Freya swim, the kids play while waiting for the train to come by! The kids were in awe at how close we were to the train!

BNSF train.
Always treasure hunting!

We had some much needed time with friends on our trip. It was fun getting to explore the new place they call home! The kids love waterfalls so they took us to Whatcom Falls to hike. It was a nice easy hike along a river.

Much bigger in person!

There was a small waterfall with a great swimming hole for Freya!

Little bit of a steep hike down but we have done worse!
Swimming any chance she gets!

Coffee and conversation by the water while the kids played at the playground.

So thankful for great weather and great views.

On to the next adventure…
