Forks is a town on the Olympic Peninsula that is known for it’s logging history and also the setting for the Twilight books. We definitely did not make the trip for Twilight! I will admit, I have read all the books and seen all the movies. The town does seem rather proud to be the home of Twilight so if that is your thing, this is the place for you! The camping, hiking and beaches are what brought us out to Forks!

And we thought we got a lot of rain on the Kitsap Peninsula…
Over 3 feet since January!
We saw zero!
They only get a few visitors!
Okay, I had to take one Twilight picture!

Another Washington State Park checked off our list! We were impressed with Bogachiel and would recommend a stay there! It is a small campground but a good base camp if you are exploring the area. The beaches are close and lots of hiking! Our neighbors in the site next to us were friendly and we enjoyed some adult conversation while our kids played together! They were transplants from Texas so we had a lot to talk about! The river that runs through the campground was the perfect way to burn some of Freya’s energy. The kids enjoyed it as well! Wearing the kids and Freya out before bedtime helps make sure we all get some good sleep!

I have some cute helpers!
Evenings at the river.

I think we knew before we even left for our trip that a weekend would not be enough time to explore this area. That was absolutely the case! So many cool areas to explore here! A few more days would have been nice. Thankfully it isn’t super far from where we live so a return trip is absolutely in our future. A lot of hiking we wanted to do was in Olympic National Park so we couldn’t bring Freya with us! Most trails in the National Parks do not allow dogs. Thankfully the beaches here are dog friendly even though they are part of ONP.

Our first stop was at the stunning Ruby Beach. The day started off rainy and foggy. Typical PNW weather. After an hour or so, we were enjoying blue skies and sunshine! Sea stacks, drift wood and tide pools provided lots of entertainment for the kids. We appreciated the short, easy hike down to the beach.

Easy hike to the beach
It sure is pretty even with all that fog!
Some drift wood to hike over at the end of the trail! It gets very slippery with the rain so be careful!
Typical picture we get at every beach!
So happy this pup is always up for adventure!

We found some cool sea creatures. It is hard to grasp how big these sea stacks are until you are right next to them!

Sea Stars!

And finally blue skies and sun! As soon as that sun came out we all realized we were dressed too warm. The layers started coming off immediately.

We were surprised by the sandy beach. We were expecting it to be mostly rocky! There definitely was a good section that was covered in smooth rocks, just not as much of the beach as we were thinking!
Another epic family photo!

Our next stop was Rialto Beach. It was back to being overcast and rainy! Unfortunately the sun did not not come out at this stop. I love this moody weather though. Layers back on and out to the beach we went! This was an even easier hike to get to the beach.

When the tide is lower you can hike all the way to those sea stacks way off in the distance. You can easily hike several miles along the beach.
Second and Third Beaches are off in that direction. When the kids are a little older we would love to hike and camp at the beaches there!
The beach here was so interesting. No sand, but lots of tiny, smooth rocks making up the beach.
Aspen was in heaven with all the rocks!
Admiring his stack!
They had such a blast climbing all the drift wood with dad!
Finding the perfect rocks to stack!

So thankful for another camping trip in another amazing spot in the PNW!

On to the next adventure…
