Roozengaarde Round Two!

It is hard to believe we have lived here long enough to have annual traditions! Last year we made the trip to Skagit Valley to visit the Tulip fields and made our first blog post about it:
https://www.nocaresmountainair.com/2018/04/tulip-festival/ Right away Sam and I both commented how we thought his mom would absolutely love it! So this year we decided to invite Sam’s parents out for the Tulip festival. We are so happy they were able to make the trip! We know traveling 1,700 + miles is not always that easy when it involves coordinating time off work, planes, light rails, ferries and all the time and money that goes into planning a trip. We are grateful when anyone takes the effort to come visit us! We know it is a long trip! We do not take visitors for granted. Rob and Janice got to visit several state parks in the area, go hiking and take a few trips to the beaches. In addition to all this they both were a big help in some home improvement projects. Rob helped Sam finish all three bathroom floors and the laundry room while Janice helped me in the kitchen, yard work and with the kids. We had such a wonderful time. Odin and Aspen loved the quality time with Grandpa and Grandma. Aspen now thinks that every ferry we see has Grandpa and Grandma on it. Haha.

Hiking at Scenic Beach State park before we enjoyed a nice picnic!

After a few days spent hiking, visiting state parks, beaches and all the house projects completed, we were finally able to make it to see the tulips at Roozengaarde! We got up early to make the 8 a.m. ferry in Port Townsend over to Whidbey Island. The crossing from Port Townsend is so beautiful. Such a short, peaceful ferry ride. It is a longer trip to get to the tulips so the ferry ride helps a lot. We can all get out of the car and stretch our legs and the kids can burn some energy before getting back in the car!

Waiting at the ferry terminal watching the ferry come in.
Hard to see in the picture but the Olympics were out!
Who says ferry rides can’t be romantic?

After arriving on Whidbey we drove through Deception Pass to our final destination: Roozengaarde! Skagit Valley is so picturesque. I am so glad the mountains were out even though the day was a little cloudy and raining. Really the weather was great! We planned for rain but thankfully it held off until we were heading out! After having spent some time in the PNW now we have learned to ignore rain in the forecast and just go for it! If you have the appropriate gear it is no big deal!

The mountains are out!
Run wild my children.

Roosengaarde is just one of the tulip farms in Skagit Valley. They alone plant 350 acres of tulips every year! They also plant 450 acres of daffodils which bloom in March. Hopefully some year we can make it up there to see that. It is so fun to walk in the acres of tulips. Thankfully it wasn’t super muddy this year!

My favorite! We will be planting some yellow tulips in our yard this fall.

My wild Aspen.

Every year the 5 acre garden display is redesigned and replanted at Roozengaarde. You can tell so much work goes into this. It is absolutely stunning!

You can’t leave Roozengaarde or any part of the Tulip Festival without some fresh cut tulips. Odin even picked some out for Grandma to take back to MN!

After a few hours wandering around Roozengaarde, we made our way back to Deception Pass. It is such an incredible spot to explore! Odin wasn’t feeling well so I stayed in the truck with him for a nap while everyone else went out to walk across the bridge. I am so proud of Janice for walking across the bridge! This is the 3rd time I have been here and I have yet to make it all the way across!! I chicken out not even half way across. Maybe the fourth time will be the charm? The views sure are worth it though!

It doesn’t matter how she made it across, all that matters is she did it! Sam giving her an encouraging hand.

After making it across, they went below the bridge to do some exploring on the trails!

The bridge she just made it across!

Aspen was in heaven with all the puddles!

To end our time there we went down to the beach at the state park.

Searching for the perfect rocks.
Just a 27 year old getting super excited about all the crazy ocean things.

So thankful to live in a place surrounded by so much beauty. People travel from all over the country to visit the tulip fields in Skagit Valley every spring. We are blessed to be just a few hours away!

On to the next adventure…
