Springtime Vitamin D

ferry ride

Spring has sprung in the PNW! We have been enjoying these sunny days the last few days. We have been packing our days with as much outdoors time as possible. The sun and fresh air has been good for all of us! I really enjoy watching the kids be excited to be outside and watching them explore.

On Saturday we were able to spend a few hours with family in Seattle!

My sister Angie and her boyfriend Charlie had a layover in Seattle on their way to Hawaii. We took the ferry over and spent a few hours with them. The spring weather was beautiful! We played at the park and spent time checking out Pikes Market. The kids loved seeing Auntie and Char. I miss my sister so much so even just a few hours together helps!!

Our neighbor told us about one of Kitsap County’s many hidden gems – Foulweather Bluff Preserve. He used to take his girls there when they were little. I love when people share their favorite spots! On Monday we decided to check it out to see if it was as amazing as he said it was. It definitely was! We had the beach to ourselves the entire time we were there. It was everything you could dream of for a springtime Monday. Mountain views, listening to the ocean, sunshine, seclusion and wildlife. It was a short little walk through the woods down to the beach – about 10 minutes.

We were hoping to see some whales but no luck! There has been some Orcas spotted in the inlets the last few days. I was hoping to get lucky and spot them. We found a few sand dollars and a very large crab instead. I still get excited about seeing things like crabs and finding cool shells. Not something I grew up with!

So many clam shells! The water is so clear and quiet.

It was such a peaceful walk up and down the beach. This is definitely a spot we will be taking visitors to! I love finding all the lesser known gems in the area.

Sam was pretty happy to get in some drone flying too!

Later he was able to put together this short video showing what he was able to capture!

We took the logging road to the waterfall at Ueland Tree Farm in Bremerton. The hike was easy up the logging road but the hike down to the waterfall was much more intense.

It has been pretty warm as spring begins, with temps in the 70’s this week (and no AC) so escaping to the woods has helped us cool off. Besides, not a bad view.

Time outdoors would not be complete without sticks and rocks!

Post Hike!

The kids got a lot of time playing with friends this week too. Lots of hiking and parks. We were too busy having fun I didn’t even take pictures!

So thankful to have been able to spend some time with family.  I was running on about 2 hours of sleep between night shifts but it was worth it!

On to the next adventure…

  1. Fun blog! My dad shared the link….

    1. Thanks! Awesome, I will be staying off FB so this will be a great place to keep up with what we are doing!

  2. The drone footage is really cool. I have always wanted to visit the PNW, it looks beautiful there. My mom & dad shares the link of the bubble run, this is a cool site.

    1. Thanks! We are trying to get away from social media so we thought this would be a fun way to share our adventures with family and friends. Our house may be small but the outdoors is to die for…so we are always open to hosting family and friends if you ever want to vacation out this way!
